Hi,

Having a little problemette...

I have installed u-boot on my LS2 but if fails to find 0:1 boot/vmlinuz says its no a valid EFT image or some such. I followed the instructions in Impatient uboot install or so I thought but I probably screwed it. I obviously dont have direct access to the LS other than through netcat and the u-boot console. what do I need to do to get this booting from a valid Linux kernel.

From what I read on u-boot I should be able to load the image from the file-system, I unpacked it to /mnt/hda/temp or alternatively from a network resourse via TFTP. Can anyone give me instructions on how I might get a kernel image to boot so I can then fix the rest

I will try to connect again tonight and get some more info visa-a-vie file mounts etc via ext2ls. will update this post then.

OK Edit ====================

Right schoolboy error.... I created the boot directory on ide 0:3 not ide 0:1 therefor the vmlinuz image is in the wrong place.
How can I boot from that image?

==========================

Cheers
JB

Ok... Ive worked it out by looking at the command variables in printenv and substituting the area I placed my image in for the default one..

I managed to get the default kernel to boot and went for the substitution 2.6.22

This hasnt booted successfully just ended up with the slowly flashing power light.

Any Idea why this might be... happy to provide more detail

this is the output in nc

Hello!

I've just seen your post. I dont understand much of all the things hier, but I'm just trying to understand u-boot. Have you forgotten this step:

Quote:
After creating your kernel image use mkimage to add a tiny header containing the load and execute address for the image, like this (all on one line):

localhost:$ mkimage -A arm -O linux -T kernel -C none -a 0x8000 -e 0x8000 -n "Linux 2.6.6" -d linux.bin uImage.bin

I think you could tftp foonas-em in from uboot and go from there?

JB,

I am not sure if I ever got 2.6.22 to boot on my LS2.

I would go with davy gravy's 2.6.30.5. It can be found under the 2.6 project pages I think. Your version of U-boot does not to my knowledge allow the use of uboot images. You can boot elf and vmlinuz.

The kernel substitution would probably entail transferring your hard drive to a desktop at this point.

Before you do that, however, you should make sure netconsole is set up correctly in the kernel options. You need to set up something like

setenv bootargs root=/dev/[sh]da[13] netconsole=6666@192.168.11.150/,@192.168.11.149/

Make sure the slashes get in there. You probably have to escape them with '\'.

Also, you should rule out any inode problems if you created 0:3 yourself. It should be created with -I 64 if I remember correctly.

Best of luck,
Felix
