Hi,

did anyone of you test the Autofan-script with the hddtemp (http://www.guzu.net/linux/hddtemp.php) ??

Currently, I've compiled and it has two nice feature which could be used in the autofan script:

1. It detects the hdd temperature without the installation of smartmontools:

> hddtemp /dev/hda
> /dev/hda: SAMSUNG SP1203N: 38 C

2. It detects the temperature of a sleeping hdd without spinning up the drive, but printing its status:

> hdparm -< /dev/hda
> hddtemp /dev/hda
> /dev/hda: SAMSUNG SP1203N: drive is sleeping

In my opinion the tool should be useful for the Autofan script.

Ciao,

Alien

Thanks for this information. I've been thinking it would be quite simple to write a small daemon to monitor temperature and control the fans accordingly, but I have not yet had time to research existing/alternative solutions.
