Model Name: TS-HTGL/R5 F/W 1.35

Hi there,

I have acquired an old Terstation Pro V2 which at the moment has 4x250Gb drives in it.

Obviously I'd like to increase those drives to the largest possible size. I've searched various places but cannot find any definitive information.

Can I fit 4 x 2Tb drives in there?

If so what make/model have people used? Or what is the largest drive size that this unit can take?

Many thanks for a reply

Regards

Hey, I am unsure if HS-DHTGL/R5 is the same as a HS-HTGL/R5 (note the missing "D" in yours), but in mine I have 4x2TB drives. These are Samsung ecogreen drives. I bought them at bestbuy - they had a sale going on with some external drives(something like $99 or $89 for 2tb external USB drive). I bought 4 of them. Removed the drives from the enclosures and popped them into my HS-DHTGL/R5 and they are all seen, and have worked perfectly so far(almost 2 years now). But, do note I have mine in a RAID10, not a RAID5, so I can't say if RAID5 will work yet, but RAID10 does(though from my research, RAID5 with ~5.6-5.8TB usable should work).

But, the drives I use are SLOOOWWWW. I only use my TS as a backup. If you plan on hitting it hard you may not like the performance.

Ok thanks, that's good to know.

Speed isnt really an issue for me as I, like yourself, will primarily use the unit for backup.

Ok, I'll give it a whirl!

Thanks again

I did use 4 x Seagate 2T drives (ST2000DL003-9VT1).
Works, but I got a common problems: drives sometimes disconnects (when under load). This is a common problem of those Seagate Green drives that happens on other NAS brands.
Other 2T drives should work greater.

Hi and sorry for reviving an old topic.

I too have just purchased an used TS-H1.0TGL/R5 that originally contained 4x250GB hdd's. I am too planning to purchase new hard disks to expand my storage.

I have 2 questions:
1. What about 3TB hdd's? Would those work? Has anyone ever tried to install them in one of these units?
2. mltv, do you think the unit is slow because the drives themselves are slow or because the unit cannot cope with such an amount of storage?
3. MoeFr, have you tried with RAID5? How's your performance?

Hi,
I haven't tried the RAID5 but the RAID10.
With Gigabit Ethernet MTU set to 7404bytes and via a Linux Server, I got 45Mb/s on write.
