I recently updated my Terastations drives. I removing the existing 250, and replacing them with 1.5TB.
When I replaced the first drive I immediately experienced a E04 Error.

By booting into EM mode I was able to resync the drive, I repeated this for all drives. Waiting for syncs between swaps.

When the last drive was replaced, I force flashed the device with the 2.14 firmware. The flash was successful. I deleted the original RAID 5 setup and replaced it with a RAID 10. All seems well. As far as I can tell everything works fine. i have checked the disks with commands from the upgrade wiki, and all seems to check out. When I reboot, again I get the E04 error.

This is the odd part. When I boot without the network cable plugged in, the system boots fine. I can then plug in the network cable and get a IP and everything seems fine.

Same behavior with Static IP

This is "functional" but I am really not happy with it.

Here is a update for the benefit of someone in a similar situation. I replaced my Original 250GB drives with 1.5 TB Drives. After the upgrade I was unable to boot the device normally. I had to boot via EM, or with the network cable removed. Not mentioned in the original post, I had another problem. The device would stall about every 500MB when uploading data.

So If I copied a 1 GB file to the device it would stall for about 5 seconds halfway through the copy. The copy would complete normally.

I had re-flashed the device many times, no changes. On a whim I flashed it with the TS Pro firmware. This fixed my boot problem. I still had the copy/stall issue.

Feeling better, but still frustrated I erased the RAID 10 and created a mirror. This fixed the copy/stall problem. Recreating the RAID 10 on the TS PRO firmware might have also fixed it, but I did not try. I am fine with two mirrors. I did not try a RAID 5 config. I avoid using a RAID 5 array with consumer SATA drives. If the drives have error correcting turned on a bad sector on a disk can quietly nuke your data. The drives start and the RAID start to shuffle data around without any communication between the systems. I have seen this happen many times.

This worked for me YMMV
