I've looked around but haven't found what I'm looking for. I have a bunch of LS drives scattered on a network and wondering if its possible to read the serial number of a LS drive (of course if its embedded into some flash rom on the board itself)??? Otherwise would need to have a 'body' physically go to each drive and read it off the back of the drive.

Edit: I don't mean the actual HD via hdparm but the serial of the LS itself.

Use the MAC address...

ifconfig|grep eth0|awk '{print $NF}'

Why? Isn't the MAC unique enough for you?
