I Have posted a couple of Tarballs that are the result of the Debian boot strap guide for V and X series here:

http://downloads.buffalo.nas-central.org/Users/Stonie/ARM9/You should be able to take a disk out of a stock V or X series, mount it on Linux desktop machine (or live CD) wipe out existing files in boot and rootfs and then extract these tarballs to the relevant partitions.
Worked for me after I killed my root fs trying to upgrade my XHL to Wheezy.
Your mileage may vary, and these are for testing by confident users/developers. ATM… This may be the quickest way to get from stock to an open debbootsrap image?
