There are a few devices that allow for USB over network, where the client runs software so we can just connect to the USB device as if it were connected. Dlink has it as a part of some of their routers.

I found this http://www.usb-server.com/nslu2.html they have a version for the NSLU and I tried to go ipkg install and it just gave an error so I have a feeling its not quite the same.

Has anyone tried to install this?

I didn't go passed inquiring if others had tried it...

I just searched you and found this viewtopic.php?f=32&t=16656 neat stuff, but appears to only have a Linux client and I am a windows guy :p

But it looks like neither of them are in ipkg

The site also has them for different types
http://www.usb-server.com/downloads.html
Download USB Server for Linux i386
Download USB Server for Linux x64
Download USB Server for Linux ARM-Little endian
Download USB Server for Linux ARM-Big endian
Download USB Server for Linux ARMv5-Big endian
Download USB Server for Linux XSCALE-Little endian
Download USB Server for Linux XSCALE-Big endian
Download USB Server for Linux MIPS
Download USB Server for NSLU2

Is it safe to try like the ARM- something builds for the linkstation?

O.o I have been curious about how things get to optware or ipkg

^Per my previous post

For a open stock firmware linkstation, would any of those work? Like don't need to build etc, I don't think its a dumb question because they are linux builds, and they have different ARM releases and one for the nslu2. If there's a chance it would work what would the syntax be install say local ipkg file?

I would not mind experimenting I want to network an all in one printer and maybe a camera.
