I recently got a LinkStation Quad and I'm interested in putting debian on it. I have a KuroHG with uboot/foonas-em/ubuntu on it so I'm familiar with the general steps although there seems to be lot of differences to what I've done before (i.e. em from HD not flash, ppc v arm etc).
Anyway, I tried pulling all the disks but one and it will still boot as the stock OS is raid'd across all the disks. It will boot with any of the disks. This seems like great news to me because it means that if (a) I don't mess with the flash and (b) I keep at least one of the disks unchanged, that I can always recover to the stock system with no hardware mods (serial/JTAG) from the original disk.
Therefore I plan to go ahead and attempt to get one of the lenny images designed for LinkStation Pro onto one of the disks. I believe that the hardware is pretty similar? Are there any things that anyone is aware of that I should be aware of too?
Also I am the first to do this? I haven't seen anyone attempt it with a Quad yet.
ps. I don't care about RAID; I prefer nightly rsync backups from one disk to another - I mostly lose things by accidentally deleting them and RAID can't help me with that!
