It's been a while, but I had to boot into EM mode to fix a few things manually. Also, the original instructions contained an error or two which I fixed as I did it. However, I wouldn't recommend doing the upgrade if you are not familiar with the Linux boot process.

Has anyone posted a rootfs from these efforts for us to try out/play with ?

if you tell me how to make the image i will make and post a rootfs of my debian lenny (armel) in an ed2k network
