I have some experience with Linux on desktops and servers and I'm trying to get my head around these Buffalo machines. After installing Freelink and poking around I have a few questions:

1. Does Freelink (etch) install its own kernel? I'm now running 2.6.16.16-arm1, which I assume Freelink installed.

2. Should that 2.6.16 kernel have any modules? After installation I had no /lib/modules/2.6.16.16-arm1.

3. Does that kernel have USB support built in? I think it doesn't, since I have no /proc/bus/usb folder.

4. Are there pre-built modules for this kernel somewhere?

Then, a couple of general questions about Buffalo systems:

5. Where are the uboot kernel parameters actually stored? The uboot image itself is in flash memory, correct? Are its default parameters just compiled in, or are they stored elsewhere?

6. Freelink and other distros come with a rootfs image. My guess is that when I installed it via LSUpdater, it simply overwrote the root filesystem on disk with this image? So if I were to re-install, or install a different distro, I would lose what's on my root fs right now?

Thanks in advance for helping me understand these systems better...
