I'm trying build updated modules for V4L and DVB. I'm using the kernel created by davy_gravy (2.6.26).
http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=13811

The problem seems to be that the modules I build don't have the proper symbol version information for the modules build with the kernel.
I think I need the Modules.symvers file generated by the kernel build. Is this available somewhere?
If not is there another kernel (2.6.26 or later) that would have this file available?
Since I don't have serial access to the box, I'm not very eager to build the whole kernel myself.

You could try looking here: http://downloads.buffalo.nas-central.or ... lpackages/ Otherwise, I am sure davy would post this info.

I looked into that directory, but didn't find the Module.symvers file anywhere.
This file is really needed to build the modules and is only created when the whole kernel is build.
From kbuild documentation:
Quote:
--- 2.4 Preparing the kernel tree for module build

To make sure the kernel contains the information required to
build external modules the target 'modules_prepare' must be used.
'modules_prepare' exists solely as a simple way to prepare
a kernel source tree for building external modules.
Note: modules_prepare will not build Module.symvers even if
CONFIG_MODVERSIONS is set. Therefore a full kernel build
needs to be executed to make module versioning work.

So, davy_gravy, could you post this file?

OK, its probably just time for me to do an update to current version of the Linux kernel. I'll try to do that this weekend, and post it.

But, what I could fine helpful is what else besides that Module.symvers file should I include? Let me know and I'll keep it in the tarball. :)

This kernel module building is all new to me, so I don't know if something else is also required.
