I have a Terastation HS-DHTGL configured with RAID 5. I have had this a long time and have never had any issues. Then I had a power cut. The default share disappeared. I spoke to Buffalo support and they said put it into EM mode and then update firmware (current firmware is 1.04)

I have followed their instructions, namely - Power the unit down (disconnect the power)

- Reboot it, if not in EM mode, disconnect the power and retry.
- do this until the NAS navigator firmware shows -- as the version and the terastation has a suffix of EM - then the unit is on EM Mode.

I'm on about the 25th go  Is there another way of invoking EM mode? Am I doing something wrong?

Also, I don't have another back up of the data on the NAS (Yes, very silly of me, have kicked myself several times since) Buffalo tech support have said that there is no risk to the data updating the firmware. Does anybody disagree with this? My life is on the NAS! (If I do get it working, I have already purchased a separate drive to copy all the data over as a back up!!)

Thanks in advance for any advice

I am not sure, but maybe acp_commander can put your box into EM mode?
I never used it on a PowerPC based box though.
Maybe someone else can confirm on acp_commander and PowerPC boxes?

What messages are being displayed in the LCD panel when you power it on?

They should indicate both whether the network link is active, and also what name the system is coming up with.

Hi, on start up the messages appear in the following order

ROM booting
DRAM Checking (then goes from 0 - 100%)
Loading Kernel
Welcome to Terastation
Link Speed 1000 Mbps

Which I think is normal behaviour............

Some further info.................

Using NAS Navigator (v2.34) I can successfully connect to the Terastation using the 'I'm here' utility, thereby confirming the user ID & password (which are currently set to default after trying the reset button)

Opening the web setting takes me to a Japanese log on page, which I understand is quite common, however when attempting to log in on the Japanese page, it won't accept the user ID/password credentials, i.e. it just shows up with the log on page again.

IP Settings are set to obtain IP address via DHCP

Trying to map share via NAS Navigator results in an error message saying 'Failed mapping, Remote default share is missing'
HDD on main page of Nas Navigator shows that my data appears to still be intact (49.4% full)

I am now on about 30 go's trying to get the Terastation into EM mode. Still no luck.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks in advance
