Thought I'd try compiling 2.6.22.6, not that I know what I'm doing, but....

Got it and patched it with LNI's patch
cp arch/mips/idt-boards/Configs/config.ls2.modules .config
make oldconfig
make vmlinux

I got 4 different errors that I created a symlink after each in order to carry on with the compile (is this even right?)can't remember the errors, but relates to mips_4KCle))

ln -s /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/mips_4KCle-gcc
ln -s /usr/bin/objdump /usr/bin/mips_4KCle-objdump
ln -s /usr/bin/ld /usr/bin/mips_4KCle-ld
ln -s /usr/bin/ar /usr/bin/mips_4KCle-ar
ln -s /usr/bin/nm /usr/bin/mips_4KCle-nm

Then goes right to what seems the end, but get this error now:

CC init/version.o
LD init/built-in.o
LD vmlinux
drivers/built-in.o: In function `init_hwif_default':
ide.c:(.text+0x35794): undefined reference to `no_pci_devices'
ide.c:(.text+0x35794): relocation truncated to fit: R_MIPS_26 against `no_pci_devices'
make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1

If I'm completely honest, I haven't got a bloody clue! My retarded way of thinking is that it can't be bad thing to know how to do this, for future updates et cetera, et cetera

A patch is a unified diff (diff -u). But even if you fix the failed chunk, it doesn't mean that the kernel will compile. Things change in the Linux kernel, sometimes quite dramatically, and older patches just stop working even if they apply without errors. In this case, if that is the only failed chunk, you might have a chance to make it work without too much effort.
