Since kernel 2.6.19, I cannot get NFS speeds > 8192, cause unknown, bad for dbox recordings. So I have compiled an NFS-optimized 2.6.18.8 with Debian patches and security fixes (2.6_2.6.18.dfsg.1-13etch5).

In order to install this kernel, you must first install the usual kernel with my webinstaller, no reboot necessary. Thereafter, download and install the 2.6.18.8 modules plus the kernel you need (no other kernel; the HG version should work on Teras), from my archive directory. The command to install the kernel and modules is:

tar -C / -xvzf kernel-2.6.18.8*nfs*tar.gz
tar -C / -xvzf modules-2.6.18.8*nfs*tar.gz
kernel26.sh

Needless to say, further use of the webinstaller would overwrite this special kernel, so only use the dry run in the future until further notice.

Hi Andre,

Thanks for creating the nfs-optimized kernel. I tried to install it this morning, but:

1. If I tried via webinstaller, I got the following errors:

--> Getting kernel-nfs... http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download/Instal ... nfs.tar.gz:
11:15:33 ERROR 404: Not Found.
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download/Instal ... tar.gz.md5:
11:15:33 ERROR 404: Not Found.
http://hvkls.dyndns.org/downloads/legac ... nfs.tar.gz:
11:15:34 ERROR 404: Not Found.
http://hvkls.dyndns.org/downloads/md5su ... tar.gz.md5:
11:15:35 ERROR 404: Not Found.
md5sum: legacy-kernel-nfs.tar.gz.md5: No such file or directory
mv: cannot stat `legacy-kernel-nfs.tar.gz*': No such file or directory

legacy-kernel-nfs.tar.gz was either outdated and removed; or there was a server problem.

2. I then tried to download the 2.6.18.8 NAS kernel from your archive directory, but I can't find it (I don't see anything matching the pattern in your original post in this thread). I thought I would manually install using the file names the webinstaller uses. The files do exist, but they are 0 bytes.

Marc

Well I'm working hard on kernel 2.6.24. Hence many 404's, a courtesy message from an emergency server.

Please use variant-nfs, don't try to download kernel packages directly. I cleaned up the archive directory recently and removed security critical and archived releases of minor importance.

Thank you! I will try again with variant-nfs later.

2.6.18.dfsg.1-18etch1 SECURITY FIX TO THE LINUX 2.6 KERNEL SERIES

Experimental patch by tonyo applied, hopefully making firmware flashing from kernel 2.6 possible. Please post your comments regarding this feature to viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5496

Debian 2.6.18.dfsg.1-18etch5 plus tonyo's flashing patch

In case you are wondering, *etch4 was for multi-processor systems only

Hello LS folk!

I tried to install the nfs kernel via the webinstaller - everything was working fine - afterwords I started kernel26.sh. After reboot I checked with uname -a it shows "Linux Buffalo 2.4.33.3-list.mg.2-v3".

So what should I do the get kernel 2.6 ?

I already started the webinstaller for a second time - no difference.

Best regards

Josef

Linkstation I PPC / freelink / U-Boot / kernel 2.4
