Hey,

Can anyone provide, please, a working ".config" for kernel 2.6.36 and Kurobox HG?

(I have a Kurobox HG running U-Boot / Ubuntu 9.04 / kernel 2.6.27.5, but want to upgrade both OS and kernel. Debootstrapping Ubuntu 10.10 works fine, but my 2.6.36 kernel build doesn't work... when the box reboots it cannot be pinged)

Thanks in advance!
Matthew

I can't as I've decided to stick with the 2.6.32 line; it's too stable for me to ditch. But there's a 2.6.34.1 config at http://hvkls.dyndns.org/downloads/tmp/.

Excellent, thanks Andre - I'll try that against 2.6.34.1, then use it as the basis for an upgrade to 2.6.36. 8-)

The .config and "make uImage" is not enough. You need .dts files as well.

cd /usr/src/linux
cp config-2.6.34.1 .config
make oldconfig uImage modules modules_install # wait a couple of hours
cp System.map arch/powerpc/boot/uImage /boot/
dtc -b ppc -f -I dts -O dtb -o /boot/kuroboxHG.dtb -V 16 /usr/src/linux/arch/powerpc/boot/dts/kuroboxHG.dts
dtc -b ppc -f -I dts -O dtb -o /boot/kuroboxHD.dtb -V 16 /usr/src/linux/arch/powerpc/boot/dts/kuroboxHD.dts

Thanks the supplemental reply.

I'm quite happy doing kernel compilations - was upgrading the Kurobox regularly until the kernels stopped booting. But it's hard to know whether the booting problems are with my kernel config, or with the init scripts in recent versions of Ubuntu.

If yours is a known-good kernel config, I can focus my attention on "init".

(If only Ubuntu's "upstart" init scripts would log to netconsole!)

Hi,

I have just resurrected my KuroboxHG like a few others, and thanks to Andre and the v2.6.34.1 in http://hvkls.dyndns.org/downloads/tmp/ I have a working Debian with v2.6.34.1 kernel - I am happy but would like to get v2.6.36 working.

I have been trying to build the kernel based on the above config but not having much luck - is there something that I have missed in the time I have been away from building kernel images?

Does anybody have a working v2.6.36 .config file?

Thanks, David and Thanks for site in general!

You can of course compile the latest 2.6.34.* kernel with all security updates and that .config.

Is there a specific reason why you want to go 2.6.36? Personally, I'm very happy with 2.6.32.25 (and counting). It's a Grand Cru, IMHO.

Hi, I only wanted to go to 2.6.36 as this was the latest, and I since I read that PPC kernels were discontinued, I thought I would give it a go.

Thanks, David
