Linux 2.6/PPC kernels for Linkstation/KuroBox/HG/HS are available from http://hvkls.dyndns.org/. See the Changelog for details (MSIE > 5.5 is problematic).

PLEASE use the webinstaller to download or install the kernel package, including its variants. Anyone violating the server policy risks to be denied service, if necessary permanently. Thanks for your cooperation!

Important information, please read carefully!
This release moves the previous, well-tested variant-latest to variant-legacy.
Symlinks in /boot/ make it easier to maintain different kernel versions, and provide a safety net for variant-uboot, while wasting some space.
On variant-uboot, you must load variant-legacy whenever you want to flash the system!
variant-latest features less/different modules than variant-legacy. If you're missing certain modules, please contact me.
Support for variant-tera dropped
Troubleshooting help /usr/local/sbin/fix_moduleinittools.sh

I haven't upgraded for sometime, but have a problem with latest kernel. I should probably read alot more than I do, but I'll explain what happened anyway :p

I'm on uboot so used webinstaller to upgrade (touched u-boot and headers etc..) seemed to work - rebooted. After reboot nothing came up, ran to LS and saw uboot light just pulsing. After a period of time I decided to pull the plug and tryagain, this time it appeared to load (according to power light).

At this point I hear a furious amount of disk activity and decide to ssh in and see whats happening. I do this, enter passwd and then it takes roughly 20 mins for me to be able to issue top. All I see when it comes up is that the load avg reads 9xx 8xx 9xx or there abouts (thats a fair bit ?)

After that died down I discover my files aren't anywhere to be found agghhhhhhh!! I see that /dev/hda3 hasn't been mounted and decide to touch legacy to find that they're all still fine :)

So I'm on 2.6.25.20-svn365-dirty493. Oh, I looked in dmesg after new kernel loaded and it was full of "out of memory" and "no swap"?

Sorry if I've missed something, does it work for everyone else?

Interesting figures :( Sorry to have hosed your system, but how in the world did it happen?

I'm using the uboot kernel myself, on a HG. My /etc/fstab reads

/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults,noatime,nodiratime 1 1
/dev/sda2 swap swap sw,pri=1 0 0
/dev/sda3 /mnt ext3 defaults,noatime,nodiratime 0 2
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=20 0 0

Note this is a true flat tree device kernel, so is depends on uboot using kuroboxH[DG].dtb!

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults,noatime,errors=remount-ro 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=20 0 0
/dev/hda2 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda3 /mnt ext3 defaults,noatime 0 0

grep -E "^/.* / " /etc/fstab | grep -q "/dev/hda1" || echo "fstab WARNING" didn't give me warning so I presumed it was OK, although I always thought it should read sda* under 2.6

although /dev/hda3 gives fstab warning

in /boot is kurobox.dtb -> kuroboxHD.dtb

I'll adjust this for variant-latest with uboot. But variant-legacy still requires /dev/hda!

OK, the new webinstaller is ready for testing. I've also updated the instructions.

variant-legacy and the non-uboot version use the old IDE driver and should be compatible with standard LS fstabs (/dev/hda?). However, the (lastest) uboot kernel uses the PATA driver and /dev/sda?. I hope the newly uploaded tarballs solve all problems.

I changed fstab to sda this morning and is fine, and I guess webinstall altered avr_evt to sda because I was going to, until I noticed it had been done!

I do get this, but can't find anything about it:

CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT is deprecated and will be removed soon. Please use
nf_conntrack.acct=1 kernel paramater, acct=1 nf_conntrack module option or
sysctl net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_acct=1 to enable it.

Hi Andre,
I Tried this new Kernel but after I'd installed it using the web installer my hs would only boot in 2.4.20 so I did Touch /boot/variant-legacy then i reinstalled from web installer and it booted to 2.6.25.20

Dave

Bauldrick, three ways to deal with this obviously upstream change. I would prefer

# one time action
echo 'net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_acct=1' >> /etc/sysctl.conf && reboot

David OConnell, could you please retry the webinstaller? Are you on uboot or not?

hi andre, I retride the webistaller but if I do Touch /boot/variant-latest it still boots into 2.4...... Although the modules for 2.6.30 are in /lib/modules. I sorry but I don't know what uboot is I've seen it talk about on this website but don't quite understand.

uboot is a bootloader in Flash ROM, independant of/replacing the Buffalo code.

I use the new webinstall yesterday, my LS HG hangs. (uboot light just pulsing)

my steps
Code:
rm /boot/variant-uboot
rm /boot/variant-ug
rm /boot/variant-legacy
touch /boot/variant-latest

wget http://hvkls.dyndns.org/downloads/latest-openlinkhelper.tar.gz
tar -C / -xvzf latest-openlinkhelper.tar.gz
chmod 1777 /tmp

wget http://hvkls.dyndns.org/downloads/latest-webinstaller.tar.gz
tar -C / -xvzf latest-webinstaller.tar.gz

/usr/local/sbin/webinstaller-kernelinst.sh

/usr/local/sbin/kernel26.sh

Is there anything wrong?
