here is how to do it:

1) download the source of nano (i only found the debian source package)
Code:
wget h**p://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/n/nano/nano_2.0.1.orig.tar.gz

replace the ** with tt

2) untar it
Code:
tar xzvf nano_2.0.1.orig.tar.gz

3) cd into it
Code:
cd nano-2.0.1/

4) configure it with "--enable-static"
Code:
./configure --enable-static

5) make

6) make install

the static nano binary should be installed to /usr/local/bin/nano afterwards
this is the file we need to be uploaded.

if there is a volunteer we provide him with access to
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download/uploads/

i compiled the (probably unnecessary) powerpc static nano build to
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/download/uploads/nano_ppc_static

but now we need a mipsel(LS2)-build.

Bauldrick
which version did you use?

did you download it from the link i posted?

i admit this nano-source is the one from the unstable tree:
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/source/nano

maybe you should try the stable or testing source:

stable
http://packages.debian.org/stable/source/nano
direct link: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/n/nano/nano_1.2.4.orig.tar.gz

unstable
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/source/nano
direct link:http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/n/nano/nano_2.0.1.orig.tar.gz

if even this does not work we can try to patch the nano source with the additional patches that are available on the source-pages.
