I installed openlink on the experimental LS2 I have. It installed perfectly. the only problem is that if I point my web browser to http://<LS2_IP_Address> I get a blank screen. I need to go to http://<LS2_IP_Address>/cgi-bin/index.htm in order to get the welcome page to come up. I suspect some setting for thttpd that is preventing it from serving the default index.htm page. Any help would be appreciated.

How is your thttpd set up? Does http://i.p.a.dr/index.htm work?

Strange. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I suspect that part has to do with the browser cache. One other problem. As I didn't know the password I erased the .htpasswd files in /www, /www/cgi-bin, and /www/script and created new ones with htpasswd -c .htpasswd root and I still cannot log on. it brings up the login window (sometimes) but I cannot use root and the password I createdwith passwd root.

A bit more Info. It will only bring up the login box if I erase and recreate the .htpasswd files and clear the browser cache.

I can't reproduce the problem; permissions maybe. Apart from that, everything looks OK from here. Are you on a tight sudo setup?

no. No biggie. just need telnet to finish the hacks (the simple ones are the only ones left). I'll not worry about it.

Have you checked the log file?

Nothing special in the log file. Stupid question: How do I specify the password when creating the .htpasswd file?

# thtpasswd
Usage: htpasswd [-c] passwordfile username
The -c flag creates a new file.
Will prompt for password, unless given on stdin.

Still no joy:

bash-2.05a# htpasswd -c .htpasswd root
Adding password for root.
bash-2.05a#
bash-2.05a# thtpasswd
bash: thtpasswd: command not found

was in the directory where I wanted .htpasswd when I did htpasswd -cb .htpasswd root <password>. same problem. Asks for user and password then passes a blank screen only after clearing the cache.

htpasswd2? Try "-p" or "-d". Error 401 in the logfile?
