http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/misc/rewriteguide.html
for apache2
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/mod/mod_rewrite.html
for apache 1.3

First, make sure modrewrite is installed as a module.

Hi Flavoie,

Many thanks for your reply, I read the page and it is exactly what I am looking for. Also, how can I check that the modrewrite is installed as a module ? I have been looking everywhere, but I am not a star in Linux and I'm sure I keep missing what I need to do...

Thank for your time and your patience ;)

Ps: For others who are looking for info about modrewrite, this page is great:

Sorry, i should have said "make sure the mod_rewrite module is installed."
If the module is there, no worries, you're done !

Hi again, could you please help me to make sure that the mod_rewrite module is installed properly? I can see it in the httpd.conf, but everytime I load page located in the same folder as a .htaccess file, the system returns an error. If the .htaccess is empty, it's all fine. As soon as I put the modrewrite syntax, then I got the error.

Thx for your help ;)
