I'd have to agree with <system>.nas-central.org or if we DO have to change once again, then <sys>-central.org. no need to hassle the name all the time. we'll pick one and keep that. Sub-names will do all that's required and allows us to grow to other vendors and communities central.

I can certainly understand why the sites major contributers care (deeply) about the url/branding/name of the site, but as an infrequent user that just checks in periodically, it would frankly be hard for me to care less... as long as the site is indexed by the major search engines and is near the top of the results for queries such as, "<nas_product> hacking" then I'll be satisfied.

So, now that I've told you that you should completely discount my opinions about the name... I happen to like the idea of either:

<brand_or_product>.nas-central.org
nas-central.org/<brand_or_product>

I understand that the developers here may not want to support every Buffalo device, and for that reason, using buffalo.nas-central.org has been seen by some as being too generic, but I can assure you that someone searching for hacks for the Buffalo XR72-MagicBox that happens upon this site will quickly discover that buffalo.nas-central.org doesn't have any hacks for them. If the site includes a list of the "supported" Buffalo devices that's easy to find (to prevent a flood of, "please start supporting xyz devices for me!" requests), then that should be that. If some other group doesn't want to become part of the "super wiki" here and creates their own site to support such a device then this site could link to them and everyone would be happy. If the other Buffalo sites somehow feel slighted because we're using the generic Buffalo name... let that be their problem. On the Internet, he who registers the domain name first, wins (generally)!

<EDIT>
I forgot to mention that the above naming scheme should allow for creating:
buffalo.nas-central.org
kurobox.nas-central.org
terastation.nas-central.org
linkstation.nas-central.org
...
etc.

and multiple names could point to the same data, so whatever name the "people who care" like could be added and linked accordingly.
</EDIT>

Thanks for your time.

I’m new to all this and slightly bemused by it. I do agree we need our own identity and, if this means setting up a new domain or two, so be it. However ltk-united.org is a terrible name. Surely we can think of something better. How about teralink-kuro.org?

Hi,

I´m slighly new on this community, but I found help for my LSPro here at nas-central.org. So why you would change this? Everybody whos new and is trying to find solutions for Buffallo brandes NAS will join any of the search engines in the internet. This was my way to find great help here.
So I think its easy to find you. And the name nas-central.org is more easy to keep in mind as this other ltk????? isn´t it?

So go on with your great forum on this domain.

Jacy

Why don' you take "kuro-terra-link.org"?
I think, it's not perfect but it sounds better than tlk-united!

Hi everyone !

I'm new to this community too... I've found it very helpful in my first steps with my Kurobox and I'd like to thanks everyone here for the wonderful job accomplished !

IMHO, I think nas-central.org is just a perfect domain name for the place. And I agree with the idea of making it a central place for ALL nas-based devices.

I understand some people may think the buffalo/linkstation/kurobox identity is fading... but I don't see why a subdomain inside nas-central.org wouldn't solve this identity crisis...

buffalo.nas-central.org is perfect to me... as well as forum.buffalo.nas-central.org & download.buffalo.nas-central.org...
or whatever might be xxxxxxx.nas-central.org to keep everyone happy...

but please avoid name such ltk-united.org or anything else that's just too hard to remember/ not explicit enough/...

NAS-CENTRAL.ORG is just too easy to recognise/identify to be avoided...

just buffalo.nas-central.org and so on?

I am fine with this, so I voted against the united-name. I think mindbender did it right. Please folks remember: changing domains sucks.

Subdomains off nas-central.org would be the easiest way for me to access any NAS info.

The easiest way for me would be folders like nas-central.org/buffalo, since my browser features URL completion.

nas-central.org/buffalo should be trivial to set up once you have buffalo.nas-central.org as long as both is on nas-central.org (and there it should remain IMHO...), you can even allow for both ways of access. But I wouldn't mind chosing one or the other.

Make a choice.....but keep it.
I personally liked nas-central.org......put the specific in front or after the site name.
I would go for http://www.nas-central.org/linkstation...because it keeps the current URL!

Kind Regards

+1 for subdomain.nas-central.org or nas-central.org/subdomain

ltk-united.org really suggests a football club.
