Anybody who needs their PPC based Linkstation, Terastation, Terastation Pro, or MIPS based Linkstation flash memory reprogrammed can now have it repaired.

As of now, unbricking will include installation of the JTAG header on your PPC or MIPS based Linkstation or PPC based Terastation or Terastation Pro, bridging of the required resistor to provide power to the JTAG cable, and reprogramming of the flash memory with any firmware you want (recommendations made).

Since unbricking requires soldering on the motherboard and reprogramming of the flash contents there is no guarantee that your Linkstation will be repaired, or that it is not already damaged beyond repair. I will do my best to make your Linkstation work again; however, be advised that this repair does void the warranty. If your box is not repairable I will contact you regarding how to proceed. Most likely if you decide you do not want your LS back I would refund all fees except the cost of shipping to me.

Cost for this service is $25 plus shipping in both directions which is about $22 round trip for any location in the continental United States.

If you are interested please send an email to dtaylor at kurobox dot com with your mailing address and your email address for PayPal invoicing and instructions.

Dave

If anybody else wants to help unbrick please let me know so we can reduce shipping costs by shipping to the closest person with a JTAG cable and the ability to solder a header in place.

Is the HD HG400LAN a candidate for unbricking? I think I bricked mine trying to flash the Freelink firmware. I've followed almost all the instructions to try to reflash it and nothing worked so far. I used a port scanner to try to find the LS address and could't find it. I tried putting it in EM mode with the reset button and failed. I'll try next to erase the partitions on the hard drive to see if it goes in EM mode.

so....is your box bricked or not? your last message confuses me.

i will receive another HG soon for unbricking....i have a JTAG-cable from kuroguy and i unbricked my LS1 twice.

so if your box still is bricked and you are willing to send the box to austria

-> i can help then. same conditions as kuroguy...it just might take a little longer as he already has unbricked MANY boxes :)

hmmm... I want to say yes, but I've never worked on the TS.

Have you tried PM-ing kuroguy (if you are in the USA)? itimpi maybe someone to talk to if you are in the EU or UK.

If you are in the US and kuroguy is unavailable, I might be willing to do this ... if itimpi can give me guidance. I've jtagged most models, but not the TS's.

As I've gotten really busy with the family and work, I no longer offer this service. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

JTAG of PPC based TeraStations in no worse than a LinkStation.

The only thing is that if the flash is defective in the area that holds the kernel, it is not as easy to simply flash uBoot and boot off the hard disk instead (since uBoot does not support the XFS filing system used on the hard disk). What can be done in such a case is fit an old IDE 2.5" drive as an extra drive formatted as EXT2 and set uBoot to boot off that instead - but that is beyond a basic JTAG. Maybe I should write up this last point and put it into the wiki article?

Well, if you do that then I will "advertise" over here as being willing to work on the TS's. :)

Hi all - is this thread still valid or should we remove/chop some posts out of it to keep it more up to date?
